The most important subject of all is the Bible. Our goal is to be conformed to the image of Christ. We know that to be like Him, we must see Him. We see Him primarily through the Bible which is His spoken, written revelation to the world. Your child should have a habit of daily personal Bible reading and prayer to begin their day. The Bible part of their education is a supplement to that – not a replacement.
8th grade begins with the continuation of the study begun at the end of 7th grade – Walking in Power, Love, and Discipline: 1,2 Timothy/Titus by Kay Arthur, David Lawson, and Bob Vereen. This is a 13 week study with 7 daily lessons that is part of The International Inductive Study Series. At 5 days a week, this study takes 18 weeks.
Next, Knowing Scripture by R.C. Sproul is read at a pace of about 8 pages a day, finishing in 3 weeks total.
Then R.C. Sproul’s teaching series The Attributes of God is studied. These are 11 audio messages, with an accompanying study guide. The study guide has an outline, set of study questions, Bible study, and set of discussion questions for each of the 11 messages in the series. For each of the 11 messages, we have a 4 day study. On day 1 we listen to the teaching together. On day 2, the student reviews the study guide outline and answers the study questions. Day 3, the student does the Bible study from the study guide. Day 4, we discuss several of the discussion questions in the study guide. So with the 4 day sequence and 11 messages, this study takes about 9 weeks.
The year completes with another from the The International Inductive Study Series – The Holy Spirit Unleashed in You: Acts, a 13 week study with 7 lessons a week. At 5 days a week, this study takes 18 weeks.
The 4 resources mentioned would take a total of 48 weeks to complete. We supplement these throughout the year with shorter Bible studies on pertinent topics, so that we would take more than 48 weeks. Since we school “year-round” there’s no need to complete these in a strict 36 week/9 month sequence. We keep schooling throughout the summer, consisting of at least the daily Bible lesson and some Math and Reading.
