Regular reading and study of the book of Proverbs is an outstanding way to examine your decisions, plans, and attitudes in light of God’s will. For years, my practice has been to read a chapter of Proverbs each Saturday and Sunday, along with other bible readings. I read the chapter corresponding to that day’s date – Proverbs 8 on the 8th, etc. This is easy to remember and insures covering all the proverbs over several months. The book is full of essential warnings and encouragements I need to review regularly.
The proverbs are so clear and relevant that they can usually be applied without further study. Sometimes the terms used may not be readily understood in our modern culture. A basic study bible, such as the Reformation Study Bible, can help in these cases.
For parents, Proverbs for Parenting is a helpful guide that arranges verses in Proverbs according to topics such as Obedience, Envy, Self-Control, Love, Friendship, Mercy, etc. This simplifies studying together as a family – coming together to learn God's wisdom on many various characteristics and behaviors.
If you have a blog or website, consider adding this widget to the sidebar. It simply displays 1 or 2 proverbs at random each time someone visits your site.
