Physics seems formidable to many, but this book does truly make it much easier to understand. “Easy” is relative, but this is the best book I’ve found for high school homeschoolers. It has plenty of real math problems so it’s not a dumbed down “story” of physics. Rather, it takes you slowly from easy concepts to more advanced.
Anyone who has completed Algebra 2 should have no problem with the math level. I recommend teaching physics as early as possible, as it shows how math can solve real world problems. Let your student put their math skills to work. If their calling is in a technical field, they should thrive on this. They’ll see the usefulness of math and hopefully embrace pre-calculus (Saxon Advanced Math) and calculus.
This text explains concepts and has several sample problems worked out. Each section then has 1 or 2 problems the student works. Each chapter ends with a thorough review and set of problems. There are 17 chapters, each with 12 – 15 short sections. The student can cover 2 sections a day, spending about 2 weeks on a section. Then take 2 days to work the chapter review problems. So a chapter can be covered in 2 weeks, thereby finishing the book in a normal 36 week school year.
Each problem’s solution is in the book, so your student can check and rework any mistakes. With this self-paced book, no longer does physics seem so difficult. The book is inexpensive and widely available. Highly recommended!
